Meet Lela Mather, our September Resident of the Month! She was born and raised in the charming city of Seymour, Indiana. Located just one hour south of Indianapolis, one hour north of Louisville and 2 hours west of Cincinnati, Seymour is known as The Crossroads of Southern Indiana, and of course, the home of John Mellencamp!
Lela is one of Traditions of Columbus’ newest residents, having moved in just 3 months ago. She chose Columbus as her new home because “the staff and other residents were so welcoming.” She also enjoys all the activities that Columbus has to offer – from Bingo, Happy Hours and afternoon movies to fun events like Taste of Traditions, Family Nights and Courtyard Concerts.
Lela met her husband Joe when she was 20 years old. Joe worked for Cummins and served in the Army. Lela and Joe raised 3 beautiful daughters. Before retiring, she was a secretary for Richards Elementary School. When asked what she enjoys doing in her free time Lela stated, “I love to color because it is very relaxing; it’s a great way to pass the time.” She went on to say that she has a hidden talent, “I can make beautiful handmade dolls.”
Traditions of Columbus has many activities to choose from daily, but Lela said that her “favorite activity so far was planting small carnations in pretty pots.” When asked what her favorite meal was by Chef Marc and his culinary team, Lela said that she just couldn’t pick a favorite meal… “they are all so good!”
Stacey Gallardo, Columbus’ Executive Director said, “I nominated Lela as Traditions Resident of the Month because she is such a joy to have with us here at Traditions of Columbus. She always greets me with a warm smile and a hug and has such a positive and happy personality.”
