Meet Amanda Smith, Traditions' Featured Employee of the Month! Amanda was born in Springfield, Ohio, but grew up in Fairborn, a suburb of Dayton and home to Wright State University. She has been the Activities Director for Traditions of Beavercreek for two years.
Amanda has been in a committed relationship with her boyfriend for nearly five years. She is a proud stepmother to two children and a loving step-grandmother to two grandchildren.
Family is important to Amanda, "I am very close to my grandma. We have a standing dinner date every week."
"I love to sleep in," exclaimed Amanda! "But when I'm not sleeping or spending time with my family, I am in my craft room creating something - anything from painting to t-shirt making. However, my main craft love is quilting and sewing."
When asked if she has any hidden talents, Amanda smiled and said, "Well, I'm not sure if it's hidden, but I can usually figure out how to recreate something just by looking at a sample. It's probably due to my years of crafting."
Amanda's love of crafting has helped her tremendously in her role as Activities Director. From planning events for major holidays to everyday activities, her passion for creating lasting memories and new traditions shines through.
"My job is very rewarding," said Amanda. "We had a resident who had just moved into Beavercreek around Easter and wasn't happy about moving into an assisted living community. It was also my very first major holiday working as the Activities Director. I was incredibly nervous about hosting my first Friends & Family Easter Brunch. Overall, it went very well. But what touched my heart was that the new resident approached me and told me she was pleased with how well the brunch ran. The brunch gave the resident hope that she would love living here."
"We chose to nominate Amanda as Traditions' Featured Employee of the Month for her incredible spirit, bubbly personality, and resident-centered focus throughout the year, especially during the Holiday Season," said Charles Quinn, Executive Director for Traditions of Beavercreek.
"I love interacting with the residents and learning their stories," said Amanda. "The best part of my workday is seeing the joy on the residents' faces when I host an event, wear a festive outfit, or just act silly to make them smile!"
